Abstract:
Farrah (splendor) or spectral splendor has different meanings. A concept that represents a force that is influential and valid. The splendor is linked to the truth and escapes from untruth. Different lexicons have been laid down for it in different ages. For example, in modern Persian, Farrah, in the Avestan literature, Xvarǝnah, and in Middle Persian, it was called xwarrah. Glory, bliss, halo of light, the sky of glorious light and illumination are among the meanings of Farrah. The study of the meaning and the nature of Farrah in the Avestan literature, Pahlavi literature and historical sources of Iran is the subject of this article. In finding the meaning of Farrah, there are three possible ways. Preference is given to the unity of meaning and lack of transformation. Farrah is in all parts of the Avesta, especially in Zāmyād Yasht, except for Gathas which has it only once. In most of the cases, it comes with double suffix of Iranian and majestic splendor (Farrah Irani and Kiani). Farrah is deeply connected with function. In Zāmyād Yasht, it is a divine light through which the king is pious and righteous. Pahlavi texts, especially Bundahish, repeatedly referred to Farrah and its impacts. It has the same Avestan meaning. The merit of the king depends on being the owner of Farrah. Jam also lost Farrah and consequently the kingdom due to lie. It also depends on the fire. Sometimes it manifested as an artistic symbol in the kingdom of Iran. In the definition of this essay, Farrah is a moral, spiritual, mystical, generosity-related and multi-graded concept in being responsible which brings superficial glory and supernatural power.
