Although ambiguous documentation of this ritual remains in ancient Iranian evidence and Greek sources, an examination of various sources pertaining to Indo-Iranian peoples demonstrates that this ritual was a customary practice among them, and that there existed a profound and striking similarity in its features. It is noteworthy that among other Indo-European peoples as well, we find this ritual with the same identical characteristics. Accordingly, the problem of this research is to investigate the origin and nature of the human sacrifice ritual in the Achaemenid period and its connection with the beliefs of Indo-European peoples relating to the Earth Goddess. This research, based on a qualitative method of data analysis with a comparative approach and on a documentary or library-based method of collection, concludes that the origin of the human sacrifice ritual in the Achaemenid period is rooted in the beliefs of Indo-European peoples, in which, upon entering a new land or initiating a new war, a human sacrifice was offered to the Earth Goddess. Extensive evidence from mythological, ritual, linguistic, and archaeological documentation confirms its Indo-European origin. روایت آیین قربانی انسانی به‌وسیلة مغان هخامنشی همواره موجب بحث‌‌های بسیار بوده است. هرچند از این آیین مستندات مبهمی در شواهد ایران باستان و منابع یونانی باقی مانده، اما بررسی منابع گوناگون مردمان هندوایرانی نشان می‌‌دهد که این آیین در میان ایشان رسمی مرسوم بوده و حتی در ویژگی‌‌های آن نیز همسانی عمیق و چشمگیری وجود داشته است. جالب توجه آنکه در میان دیگر اقوام هندواروپایی نیز این آیین را با همان ویژگی‌‌های همسان بازمی‌یابیم. بر این اساس، مسئلة این پژوهش بررسی خاستگاه و ماهیت آیین قربانی انسانی در دورة هخامنشی و ارتباط آن با باورهای اقوام هندواروپایی مرتبط با ایزدبانوی زمین است. این پژوهش بر اساس شیوة بررسی داده‌‌ها به‌روش کیفی و با رویکرد تطبیقی و نیز بر اساس شیوة گردآوری اسنادی یا کتابخانه‌‌ای به این نتیجه دست می‌‌یابد که خاستگاه آیین قربانی انسانی در دورة هخامنشی ریشه در باورهای اقوام هندواروپایی دارد که در آن پس از ورود به سرزمینی نو یا جنگی تازه، به ایزدبانوی زمین قربانی انسانی تقدیم می‌‌شد. شواهد گسترده از مستندات اسطوره‌ای، آیینی، زبان‌شناسی و باستان‌‌شناسی خاستگاه هندواروپایی آن را تأیید می‌‌کند. https://marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/sites/marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/5002533-1791608338.pdf
