In the doctrine of salvation, repentance is regarded as one of the ways to achieve this objective. Given the position of Jesus Christ as the Savior and Son of God, the topic of salvation is extensively discussed in Christian theology and ritual practices. In the Orthodox Church, Christian rituals including confession and icons are crucial for achieving salvation and defining Christian faith. The present article carefully investigates the usage and connotation of the two basic concepts of salvation and repentance in the Old Testament. Also, the spiritual and physical salvation of the sinful is man has been examined through its descent and relation to Christology according to such prominent church fathers like Irenaeus, Origin and Anselm. John of Damascus—a prominent eighth-century theologian and the last Greek church father—has specific and influential views on the status of the icons the relationship of this subject with salvation as well as the role of repentance have been carefully examined in the collected works of this theologian. در بیشتر سنت های دینی، از جمله ادیان ابراهیمی، بحث نجات اهمیت خاصی دارد. در آموزۀ نجات شناسی، یکی از راه ها را توبه می دانند. در الهیات و شعایر مسیحی، با توجه به جایگاه عیسی مسیح علیه السلام در مقام منجی و خدای پسر، مباحث نجات شناسی به صورت مبسوط مطرح شده است. در کلیسای ارتدوکس، شعایر مسیحی، از جمله آیین اعتراف و نیز شمایل ها، در نیل به نجات و رستگاری و تعریف ایمان مسیحی بسیار اهمیت دارند. در این مقاله با دقت در کاربرد نجات و توبه در عهدین و معنای اصطلاحی آنها به واکاوی این دو مفهوم بنیادین می پردازیم. همچنین با توجه به آبای برجستۀ کلیسا، از جمله ایرنائوس، اوریگن و آنسلم، نجاتِ روحی و جسمیِ انسان گناهکار به واسطۀ هبوط و ارتباط آن با مسیح شناسی بررسی شده است. یوحنا دمشقی، متأله برجسته‌ی قرن هشتم میلادی و آخرین فرد از آبای یونانی کلیسا، دیدگاه هایی خاص و تأثیرگذار دربارۀ جایگاه شمایل ها دارد که ارتباط این مسئله با نجات و رستگاری و نیز نقش توبه، با دقت در منابع برجای مانده از این متأله، بررسی شده است. https://marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/sites/marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/4_34.pdf
