abstract = {Faith as a disposition of the soul has potential to be strengthened and developed from the viewpoint of Shiite and Catholic school of thought. Virtues, due to their internal components, have coherent and integrated connection with faith, and thus, they play significant role in the development and sublimity of faith. Using an analytical-descriptive method, this paper seeks to study two issues from the viewpoint of Allameh Tabatabai and Thomas Aquinas, two influential intellectuals in Shiite and Catholic ethics; the first, on what basis the existence of stages in faith can be justified? The second, which types of virtues are more prominent, and has role in the development of faith? Findings show that, according to both views faith gets intensity and weakness due to its nature and components. Allameh Tabataba'i regards piety, composure and certainty as the faith's effective developer virtues, but Aquinas considers it the virtues of charity, religion and certainty.

abstract_fa ={ایمان به عنوان یک ملکه‌ی  نفسانی، در اندیشه‌ی شیعی و کاتولیک از این قابلیت برخوردار است که تقویت شود و درجاتی از رشد کیفی را طی کند. فضایل، با توجه به مؤلفه های درونی خود، در شبکه ای هماهنگ و یکپارچه با ایمان ارتباط دارند و در نتیجه، سهم مهمی در کمال و تعالی ایمان خواهند داشت. در این مقاله، با تکیه بر آرای دو اندیشمند تأثیرگذار در اندیشه‌ی اخلاقی شیعه و کاتولیک، یعنی علامه طباطبایی و توماس آکویناس، و با شیوه‌ی توصیفی تحلیلی دو مطلب را بررسی خواهیم کرد؛ نخست اینکه وجود درجات در ایمان بر پایه‌ی چه امری توجیه پذیر است، و دوم اینکه کدام فضایل در این میان برجسته تر هستند و در رشد ایمانی نقش دارند. یافته های تحقیق حاکی از آن است که بنا به هر دو دیدگاه، ایمان با توجه به ماهیت و مؤلفه های درونی خود، شدت و ضعف می پذیرد. همچنین، در رابطه با فضایل مؤثر در رشد ایمانی، علامه طباطبایی تقوا ، سکینه و یقین را مورد اشاره قرار می دهد و آکویناس از فضایل نیک خواهی، دین و یقین سخن به میان می آورد.},
