In the modern world, which considers rationality to be the center of human life and defends democratic values, the discussion of election has brought many challenges. Spinoza, a 17th-century rationalist philosopher of Jewish descent, had a critical encounter with this doctrine in his theological-political treatise, presenting arguments that consider the Jewish claims to be unjustified and inconsistent with the scripture. Using the descriptive-analytical method, in this article, based on some of Spinoza’s philosophical foundations, we first present his analysis and criticism of this doctrine, which has a strong negative aspect; then we discuss the philosophical explanation of the concept of perfection and true virtue in Spinoza’s thoughts. Spinoza considers Jews to be temporarily chosen from a socio-political perspective, but in the philosophical narrative, he seeks to prove that perfection and true goodness exist only in a rational and moral life at the individual level and in a free society at the social level. He explains perfection based on the concepts of power, activity, and necessity. برگزیدگی بنی‌اسرائیل را می‌توان محوری‌ترین آموزه در یهودیت سنتی دانست. بحث دربارة برگزیدگی در دنیای مدرن که عقلانیت را محور زندگی انسانی می‌داند و از ارزش‌های دموکراتیک دفاع می‌کند، چالش‌هایی به‌دنبال داشته است. اسپینوزا فیلسوف عقل‌گرای قرن هفدهم که تبار یهودی دارد، در رسالة الهیاتی ـ سیاسی، مواجهه‌ای انتقادی با این آموزه داشته و با طرح استدلال‌هایی ادعاهای یهودیان را ناموجه و نامنطبق با متن مقدس دانسته است. در این نوشتار با روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی ابتدا بر پایۀ برخی مبانی فلسفی اسپینوزا، تحلیل و نقد وی از این آموزه را که سویۀ سلبی در آن قوت دارد، مطرح می‌کنیم؛ سپس به ایضاح فلسفی مفهوم کمال و فضیلت حقیقی در اندیشۀ اسپینوزا می‌پردازیم. اسپینوزا یهودیان را از جهت اجتماعی ـ سیاسی و به‌صورتی موقت برگزیده می‌داند؛ اما در روایت فلسفی، درصدد اثبات این موضع است که کمال و خیر حقیقی تنها منحصر در زندگی عقلانی و اخلاقی در سطح فردی و زیستن در جامعۀ آزاد در سطح اجتماعی است و آن را بر مبنای مفهوم قدرت، فعالیت و ضرورت تبیین می‌کند. https://marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/sites/marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/2022173-1741078914.pdf
