The main aspect of the nature of relationship between Sheikhiyyah and Babiyyah is that they both believe in the Fourth Pillar and in Babism. The doctrine of the Fourth Pillar was formulated by Sheikhiyyah and Twelver Shi'a had not thought of the particular meaning intended by Sheikhiyyah. The Sheikhiyyah uses the word Fourth Pillar to mean a mediator who guides people to Hidden Imam and considers the idea of the existence of Imam will be futile without believing in the Fourth Pillar. Therefore, Sheikhiyyah believes that there are four principles of religion: Unity of God, Prophethood, Resurrection and the Fourth Pillar. This particular system of thought of Sheikhiyyah concerning Fourth Pillar has provided the ground for Ali Mohammad Shirazi to claim that he is a Bab. یکی از آثار و نتایج عقاید خاص شیخیه در مورد باب امام عصر، بسترسازی برای پیدایش فرقه‎ ضاله بابیت، به رهبری علی محمد باب شاگرد سیدکاظم رشتی بود. مهم ترین وجه ارتباط میان شیخیه و بابیه، اعتقاد به رکن رابع و بابیت است. رکن رابع آموزه ای است که از ابداعات فرقه‌ی شیخیه بوده و پیش از ایشان به این معنا و مفهوم خاص موردنظر شیخیه، در معارف و عقاید شیعه‌ی امامی مطرح نبوده است. رکن رابع در اندیشه‌ی شیخیه، عبارت از واسطه ای است که خلق را به حجت خدا و امام غایب رهنمون گشته و بدون تصور رکن رابع، وجود امام را لغو و بیهوده می خوانند. ازاین رو، شیخی ها اصول دین را چهار اصل می دانند. توحید، نبوت، معاد و رکن رابع. این دستگاه فکری خاص شیخیه در مورد رکن رابع، زمینه ساز آفرینش محصولی چون ادعای بابیت علی محمد شیرازی شد. https://marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/sites/marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/5_4.pdf
