In recent centuries, this school has had very widespread effects on the process of theological discussions in the West due to its particular features and achievements. Therefore, reanalyzing the roots of its formation will greatly help us understand better and more deeply the religious developments and Christian theology in recent centuries. Using a descriptive- analytical method, the present paper investigates the most important factor of the formation of this school i.e. modern science and deals with its roots by elaborating on the factors and grounds for the formation of this science (that is, Enlightenment Age), its features, and effects on Christian theology. This paper proves that Liberal Theology was a response to modern science accompanied by putting away some doctrines by Protestant Church. الاهیات لیبرال یکی از مهم ترین مکاتب الاهیاتی است که در قرن نوزده میلادی در مسیحیت پروتستان ظهور کرده است. این مکتب الاهیاتی به علت ویژگی ها و دستاوردهای خاص خود، تأثیرات بسیار گسترده ای در الاهیات مسیحی در مغرب زمین در قرون اخیر داشته است. بر این اساس، واکاوی ریشه های شکل گیری این مکتب، ما را در فهم بهتر و عمیق تر تحولات دینی و الاهیات مسیحی کمک می کند. این پژوهش، به روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی، به مهم ترین عامل شکل گیری این مکتب، یعنی دانش مدرن می پردازد و با بیان عوامل و زمینه های شکل گیری آن، ویژگی ها و تأثیرات روشنگری بر الاهیات مسیحی، به ریشه های الاهیات لیبرال می پردازد. یافته پژوهش حکایت از این دارد که الاهیات لیبرال، پاسخی به دانش مدرن، همراه با دست برداشتن از برخی از آموزه ها از جانب کلیسای پروتستان بود. https://marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/sites/marefateadyan.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/4_3.pdf
